Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 25, 2007, 8:19 AM
Well, summer has been officially over for...4 days now. I made it through my summer classes and am now back at home, working at our local animal hospital. While I wouldn't say it's fun, it isn't entirely unpleasant (and everyone there loves my foil stuff, I keep getting requests ^_^).

I found this stuff called texture paint. It has the consistency of frosting and it sticks to foil pretty well. It takes about an hour to completely dry, but it does in one day what my previous methods did in about a week. I'm experimenting with this stuff and gesso to see what sort of finish I can get. I'll try and post my results soon.

Well, most of my cold has gone away (though I still have a lingering cough), first summer session is nearly over (I'm just a final away), and next session starts in....3 days. Ugh.

Not too much else going on; I saw the Transformers movie, and it was awesome. I got completely soaked watching fireworks from the roof of a nearby parking garage with some friends. I made some touch-ups on another little sculpey dragon for my friend, so I can give it to her next time I see her. I'll put up some pictures later (though I hope the varnish won't make it too shiny...).

I want to be out of school, already. Every once in a while I'll get the itch to do something creative, but between homework and studying, I feel guilty about not doing what I'm supposed to, and don't. I really hope that my next session class starts off slowly, then I might be able to find time to be creative.

Ooh, question: I've read that Sculpey Gloss Glaze is pretty good (but has problems with red pigments). Is there a Matte version (and is it actually matte)?

Summer Activities

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 13, 2007, 8:49 PM
For the record, summer colds suck. My head is stuffed, I can't talk right, and I keep myself up all night coughing. And I am still at school....for a 10-week long stay. At least my class is in the afternoon.

I wanted to get this semester off to a good start: copying out my notes, keeping up with homework, as well as getting some of my own art projects done. But this stupid cold just threw a wrench into all of those plans, and this past weekend I ended up not even leaving my room, and I was too feverish to really concentrate on anything artsy.

Now that I'm getting better (and with the weekend coming up), I want to get back on the track I would have been on if I hadn't gotten sick the first week of class. But what I really want to do is get back to sculpting, because I haven't really had the opportunity to work on anything since before the start of finals, and that was weeks ago.

I've posted a bunch of stuff to scraps, they were drawn on paper towels because I didn't have anything else to write on at the time. I hope to upload some pics of some of my works in progress, but I'd really rather have them all finished and done with (or at least ready to paint). Maybe I'll also upload some pics of me in my Wander costume from...last year ^_^;

The Usual Post

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 10, 2006, 12:46 PM
I'm not very good at keeping up this journal thing, am I? The last time I posted was back in August, and I've even been to another convention since then (Anime USA).

I realized that I needed to update the links to groups that I belong to, so I might as well make a post. Not much sculpting done in the past few months, I hope to change that, but I'm not sure when I'll get the time. Perhaps after finals?

My first Otakon ^-^

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 8, 2006, 12:32 PM
So, I came back from my first ever Otakon and I have to say that I enjoyed myself greatly. Its a nice feeling to be able to gush and gab over anime and video games (and great costumes) with so many people!
I cosplayed on Friday and Saturday (if anyone saw Wander from Shadow of the Colossus on those two days, its a good chance it was me) and it felt great to get commented on my hard work. There were so many great cosplayers, I couldn't get pictures of them all, though not for lack of trying ;)
Even if I never get to go to another Otakon, I am very glad that my friends talked me into coming.

Now that I don't have to work on my costume anymore (though I know that I will continue to tweak it), I can have more time to work on my other projects, such as my Gaia shop and my foil sculptures. If I have time, I might even start to play with sculpey/fimo clay again. And if anyone is interested, I might post pics of my costume up (once my friends email me their photos).
