Also taken by my camera-happy teacher...just found the pic. I wish I could get some shots from the sides and the top, because those wings are huge (well, not as huge as you may think...).

Oh, and I'll just come right out and tell you guys what its made of:

aluminium foil, tacky glue, paint, and lots of time...way too much time.......

I...I'm sorry, I can't think of a better comment than AWESOME. ^^;
The aluminum foil, though, that adds to the metallicity of the skin tone, I think.

She's absolutely lovely. May have taken ages, but well worth the effort.

Oh, it's GORGEOUS. :heart: Never cared /too/ much for McCaffrey, but fire lizards are wonderful little creatures. The fact that this is foil just boggles my mind. I tried working with foil once and I know how hard it is to get details. o.o

Thank you, I had a lot of fun with this project, even more so because it was for my high school art class, so I got to show off a bit. I've since found out that I can get tiny little details with regular foil, and a good body structure with the heavy duty stuff XP

Fun times. Still, for high school, that's absolutely fantastic, and a lot more impressive than most of the stuff I turned out in my high school art classes. ;)

So, how big is she? I'm needing to make one for my Menolly costume...

Well, I don't have her with me at the moment, but the body was about the length of my forearm, and the wings (folded as they are) were a few inches longer than that.

I think queen firelizards are a bit larger, but I think I reached max size for my sculptures on this one.

Are you going to have all of her 10 firelizards for your costume?

If you have some more detail shots or angles, since your teach was camera happy, that'd be way helpful. This is a positively wearable design that combines the look and personality with something light enough to wear on your shoulder all night.

Unfortunately I don't have any more shots of her, and she has since been damaged. While the sculpture comes out detailed and lightweight, it is a bit fragile: it won't break into pieces so much as bend and tear. Though, if she is properly anchored in place and you take care not to bump into anything, she should be fine. The biggest problem will probably be the wings, unless you have them folded close to her body.

As for the other firelizards, maybe make a few small pins?
